Do Parent-teacher relationships really matter?
Special education is just that, special. That means that normal occurrences need to be special as well. This goes for parent-teacher relationships. In the special education field education cannot stop when the student leaves school and should begin prior to his or her arrival at school. What does this mean? It means parents and teachers need to be supportive and assistive to the student in every possible way. Communication between parents and teachers of special education students is even more important because the consistency and continuance of the child’s education and well-being depends on it. If there is a child who misbehaves on a daily basis at school, but the parent says the child never misbehaves at home, the parent and teacher need to communicate to find out what is different at school from home that is triggering these behaviors. This cannot be done unless the parents and teachers have a relationship.
